Chapter 21

I was at the hospital with Tish. I was holding her hand talking to her. I was telling her how much I loved and missed her.

“Baby, you gotta hold on,” I said as I kissed her hand. “The doctors told me that you had a tumor on your brain and they are going to try and remove it.”

I didn’t tell her that she could die from the surgery, because I didn’t know if she could hear me, and I didn’t want to think about that part of it either. They had told me that it was a thirty percent chance that she could survive. I didn’t like the odds on that, but all I could do was pray that she would make it.

“Tish, you can’t leave me like this. I need you. I told them to do the surgery, and I’ll be right here waiting for you when it’s done, okay? I love you Tish,” I told her as I kissed her and left the room.

Sasha had waited for me in the cafeteria. I sat next to her and laid my head on her shoulder.

She placed her arm around me. “Baby, God is going to take care of everything,” she said as she rubbed the side of my face. “I want you to know that no matter what happens I’m always going to love you, okay?”

I lifted my head and looked her in the eyes. “Would you still love me if I stayed with Tish?”

“I wouldn’t love you if I didn’t,” Sasha said as a tear fell from her eye. “I know how you feel about her, but I can’t help how I feel about you, and I’m going to be right here. I came into this knowing that I may not ever possess your entire heart, so I’m cool with the part that does belong to me, and I’ll never let that go.”

I kissed her and pulled her into my arms, holding her. She placed her hand on my chest and looked up at me.

“I know you love me, and I’ll never take that for granted, Demond. I belong to you, and I always will,” she told me, then smiled and laid her head back on my chest.

Hearing that made me feel better and put my heart at ease. I didn’t know how she was truly feeling, especially since I hadn’t had sex with her since Tish had been in the hospital. I exhaled loudly, knowing I hadn’t lost her.

Sasha looked up at me. “What was that about?”

“I thought that you were mad at me by the way you were acting earlier.”

“I was acting that way because you acted like I was on some bullshit with you dealing with my family.”

“I’m sorry about that; you know I’m just under a lot of stress. But I thought it was because we haven’t been having sex lately.” I told her honestly what I was thinking.

She sat up, looking at me seriously. “Sex isn’t everything, and has nothing to do with why I love you, D.
